You’re never too young to enjoy chamber music! To encourage the next generation audience, we have initiated two opportunities for young musicians and music lovers.
Earlier this year, Victoria Summer Music Festival’s artistic director Arthur Rowe approached the Victoria Performing Arts Festival to offer a VSMF award, giving a cash prize and a performance opportunity to the winners of the festival’s chamber music category. We’re delighted to tell you that the winner of the inaugural VSMF Award is the Humphreys String Quartet, which presented a concert for 65 enthralled middle school students at Arbutus Global School last Thursday. And we have just now learned that the Humphreys String Quartet went on to gain top standing in last week’s Provincial Music Festival.
Hearty congratulations to the quartet, which came together in the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Collegium program.

The Humphreys String Quartet—Rebecca Reader-Lee, Boris Li, Seung Choi, Lexie Krakowski—performs at Arbutus Global School.
We are also thrilled to announce that a generous donor has offered to pay for free admissions for students.
The first 10 full-time students to show up at each concert of the 2019 Victoria Summer Music Festival before the pre-concert talk will receive free admission. To take advantage of this offer, please arrive at the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall, University of Victoria, before 6:40 p.m.
