As most of you know, the Victoria Summer Music Festival was forced to postpone its 25th anniversary celebration due to Covid -19.
I and our Board know we are all missing the live musical experience and do not want to wait until the summer of 2021, so I am pleased to announce the VSMF will be presenting some special concerts “in person” and “live-streamed” this December and January. We are calling these concerts our WinterFest 20/21. These concerts will be presented at the beautiful Christ Church Cathedral on Quadra Street. The BC Provincial Safety Guidelines will allow seating for an audience of 45.
The first series of concerts on December 4th and 5th will feature piano trios by Haydn, Brahms and Schubert, in which I will be joined by violinist Joan Blackman and cellist Brian Yoon.
The second series of concerts will feature the event which we had planned for our 2020 festival – celebrating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. On January 20, 21, 22, 23, violinist Jonathan Crow and I will present the cycle of Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano.
All programs will be approximately an hour in length and each concert will be performed twice on the same day – in the afternoon and evening. Program details, concert times and ticket pricing will follow on our website – vsmf.org.
In the midst of this calamitous time, I and our Board and our artists know how special and meaningful it will be to be together again. Our artists are excited to play for you and we are certain that you are just as eager to be embraced by some of the most wonderful music written.
As the Artistic Director of the Victoria Summer Music Festival and on behalf of the artists, we look forward to sharing this musical experience with you. It will be wonderful to see you again.
Arthur Rowe, Artistic Director
